Guidelines for submission of articles for URMI, The OSA Souvenir
49
th OSA Convention, Dearborn, Michigan, USA

 1.   Written articles in English and Odia will be accepted only from OSA members.

 2.   OSA members also may send their extended family members/friends’ articles who are not residents of USA and Canada. Writers who are living in USA and Canada must be OSA members or have registered to attend the 49th OSA convention in Dearborn, Michigan. Articles like stories, poems, essays, feature articles, research articles or eulogies (please include photographs if needed) must be sent as an attachment to the proper email address outlined in the guideline.

  ** Research articles on OSA history (national as well as chapter level) and Odia life in North America in the 90s or earlier will be highly appreciated.

 3.   Last date for submission: April 15, 2018.

 4.   Only two articles, one article for each (English and Odia) section, will be accepted from one writer. If needed, writers who submit more than one article will be asked to select which one to publish in the final publication. Please include your phone no in the email.

5.   If you are sending articles as a writer, please make sure to mention your OSA membership status at the end of your article. If you are sending articles for your friends or family, please mention your membership status and your relation to the writer. Please also include 4-5 lines describing the writer such as profession, passion, hobby etc., a message to readers, and the writer’s thought on OSA spirit or how it has helped them be proud of their identity as an Odia in USA or Canada. You may add your email ID in that section if you want readers to contact you. If the article has already been published in any other magazine or newspaper, please include that in the description.
     Finally, please do not send any article which has been already published in Utkarsha, the OSA newsletter.

 6. Please make sure to send your articles to the correct submission email ID (outlined below. Please make sure to put your name /the title of the article/ section in the subject line of your email.
For example:
      A. If Mr. X  is sending Odia submission titled Y then the subject line will be Mr. X/Y/Odia
     
B. If Mr. X is sending English submissiontitled Y then the subject line will be Mr.  X/Y/English
     
C. If Mr. X is sending  Meghna Memorial Award Competition submission titled Y then the subject line will be Mr.X/Y/MMAC

 All Odia articles need to be attached to an email as a Microsoft Document or Microsoft Document OR-TTSarala 14
Restrictions:

  • Poems: One page maximum
  • Story, Drama, other Articles: Four pages maximum
  • Odia roshei: One page maximum

If help is needed to use an Odia font, please contact us through the email provided for Odia articles.
If your article needs photographs, please send captioned photographs along with the article. In the case of multiple photographs, please mark a number on it and insert the correlating number in the article where it should be included.

We will prefer already typed articles for our convenience. In case you need help you may contact us. If time permits we will try to help for odia typing. We will consider to help on first come first base giving priority  to senior OSA members. 
 
Odia articles can be typed in any software or app like Odiphon, Aprant, Lipikar or using the Google Unicode software at https://www.google.com/inputtools/try/
(choose the language Oriya).
If you type in any other Odia software, you can convert to Unicode using  https://goo.gl/KzQFaW 
But Please make sure to compose your write-up in MS word and send it to us using the font mentioned in guidelines.

  Please submit as an attached Microsoft Document using size 14 Calibri font.
  Restrictions:

  • Poems: One page maximum  
  • Eulogy: One page maximum with a photograph.
  • Recipes along with photograph : One page maximum
  • Story, Drama, travelogue or any other articles: Four pages maximum

  • Only high resolution pictures will be selected
  • All photographs must include a caption and include the name of the photographer
  • Submissions will be accepted only through email
  • We are looking for photographs that reflect beautiful sceneries in Odisha, Canada and America, Odia culture, American/Canadian Odia culture, and tourist sites in Odisha, America and Canada

Eligibility Requirements: All children of Odia origin residing in North America (USA and Canada) in the age group of 7 to 18 are eligible to participate. The parents or children need not be members of OSA at the time of nomination.

Nomination Process: Writings can be sent in by children or their parents. All articles by minors submitted to the Souvenir will automatically be considered for the award. The submission address will be published/publicized.

Articles must be submitted along with an email ID and phone number. Please include information about your child’s age, grade, school, passion, and his experience with OSA in 2-3 lines at the end of the article.

Articles will be judged by a group of judges selected by the souvenir team and OSA newsletter editors.

Award winners will be notified by the president of OSA.
Winners will be awarded on stage in 2018 OSA Convention.
Absentee winners will be contacted by OSA executives after the convention.

 14. If your font size does not meet the requirements, it may affect the selection of your submitted article depending on how it affects the final length of your article. Please make sure to be cognizant of that. The editorial team makes the final decision on every submission.
